SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a server and perform different tasks via a command line. The protocol is used by many expert users, for the reason that the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access may be employed for a number of things based on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the website hosting server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for pretty much anything - you can install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your computer system is working with a different OS too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

SSH access is featured with all website hosting packages that we offer you. With some of them, it is provided as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade that you can include with just a few mouse clicks in your web hosting CP. You may get SSH access through the section related to it in which you shall also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could pick the password which you shall use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with several clicks from the same place. All the commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article together with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is included as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you will be able to include it from the hosting CP if required - even just for the current month. In either case, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with a single click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you will find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you may enter the password that you'd like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you can also change it as often as you require. A full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a couple of examples. An extra function after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting

You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless which Linux VPS web hosting packages you choose when you sign up, as all our packages provide this function by default. You'll not need to add or activate anything manually - immediately after your website hosting server is prepared and you get the Welcome email with the login credentials, you can connect and start working on your Internet sites or any software that you would like to set up and run on the web server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts inside the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you would like with no restrictions. You may set up any application you need and which shall run on a Linux-based web server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases quickly and easily.
